Final Fantasy XIV Disciples of the Land

Update: This article is just a brief primer on disciples of the land. Since the time of writing, I’ve found this guide. I recommend you head over and get yourself a copy as well. Not only does it have an insanely detailed chapter on disciples of the land, but an absolutely brilliant leveling guide as well (see my review). I so wish I had gotten that when I first bought the game – it would have saved me a lot of time (which could have been used to improve the design of this blog instead :))

Final Fantasy XIV or FFXIV is the upcoming MMORPG installment in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy XIV starts in a new land with some familiarities for previous players of Square Enix’s first MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. One of the game elements returning to Final Fantasy XIV is the crafting element renamed Disciples of the Land.

The classes are organized into four Disciplines; below is a detailed look into the Disciples of the Land, for information on the concept of disciplines, visit the Final Fantasy XIV Guide website.

The Disciples of the Land is a subgroup of the overall crafting jobs for crafting enthusiasts in Final Fantasy XIV. Players can choose to gather items throughout the player world. The Disciples of the Land is broken into jobs such as BotanistMiner, and Fisher.

Botanist is the study of plants or plant biology. Miners work exclusively within mines and extract valuable minerals. In application to the Final Fantasy XIV world, there is not much information currently available regarding the actual gameplay mechanics. Although some players have speculated due to the similarities between Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XI that the job will allow players to gather items at gathering points scattered throughout various worlds. In an interview by Square Enix, a player will only be able to see the gathering points attributed to the player’s equipped Disciples of the Land. What this means is that a player equipped with a Disciples of War job will be unable to see a Disciples of the Land gathering point.

Disciples of the Land will work in conjunction with Disciples of the Hand. Disciples of the Hand is a job creating consumable items for players throughout the world. Disciples of the Hand jobs such as Alchemist will be able to benefit directly from the items gathered under the Disciples of the Land job Botanist. This will allow players to reap a ripe profit by cutting out the middle man in synthesizing consumable items. Another job correlation will be Blacksmith and Miner.

According to interviews with Square Enix, Final Fantasy XIV is set for release in the fourth quarter of 2010. It is a highly anticipated game by fans of the Final Fantasy series.

On the chance of repeating myself, this article is just a brief primer on disciples of the land. Since the time of writing, I’ve found this guide. I recommend you head over and get yourself a copy as well.
