Update: This article is just a brief primer on leveling. Since the time of writing, I’ve found this guide. I recommend you head over and get yourself a copy as well. Not only does it have an insanely detailed chapter on leveling, but an absolutely brilliant leveling guide as well (see my review). I so wish I had gotten that when I first bought the game – it would have saved me a lot of time (which could have been used to improve the design of this blog instead :))
Leveling your Disciple of War job in FFXIV is a fairly straightforward and rewarding process. Often, players find themselves participating in leves and fates, as well as progressing through the various dungeons and story line quests. Levels 1-10, however, look a little bit different than mid game and end game play.
Levels 1-5
Levels 1-5 are fairly straightforward, particularly when leveling your first Disciple of War job. There are a variety of quests designed to help you become acclimated with your starting town, and to give you an opportunity to access all of the aethernet points throughout. These quests are typically sufficent to move a player’s level close to level 5.
However, if you would like to get a jump start on the process, a quick tip is to go directly outside of town before initiating or turning in any quests. Here’s why. At level 1, level 1 monsters will give a great deal of experience points and also allow for chain bonuses. Monsters up to level 3 will present no problem for even a level 1 adventurer, and the level of experience gained combined with the chain bonuses can move you to level 3 or 4 in under five minutes of grinding. This can be a worthwhile diversion that takes very little time to complete.
Levels 6-10
By this point, if you have done the associated quests with both the town and your job choice, you should have quests that take you outside the city walls. You should also have your hunting log unlocked from your job trainer. If you have not completed those quests and unlocked the log, go back to the guild associated with your FFXIV job and do so before continuing. Once that is done, head to the next quest objective, but stop and kill any monsters you see along the way. This is to complete hunting log entries. You will know that a monster is part of an entry by the message you receive after slaying one. The experience bonus you receive for completing entries far outweighs the minute or so it takes to kill them. Also, when you look to gain page completion bonuses, you will not have to backtrack.
If you follow these ffxivarr leveling guide and participate in any fates that pop up near your area, you will be level 10 before you’ve completed all of the quests in the area.
